FOOD ALLERGIES / SAFETY

Under the National School Lunch Program Act, the School Nutrition Services is required to adhere to specific regulations to accommodate special diets for students enrolled in Moody ISD.

Generally, children with food allergies or intolerances do not have a disability as defined in any of the Acts or laws, and the school nutrition services may, but is not required to make food substitutions for them.  However, when food allergies result in severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) reactions, the child's condition would meet the definition of "disability" and the substitutions prescribed by a recognized medical authority must be made.

If your child has a food allergy, you must notify the school of the allergy and provide written documentation from a licensed physician with the type of food allergy and specific substitutions needed.  All food allergy documentation must be updated yearly.

Note:  Juice is not a substitution for milk unless the food allergy is defined as a disability.

FOOD SAFETY

The Moody ISD Child Nutrition Department has implemented the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety program required by the Texas Department of Agriculture.  The department meets the highest food safety standards as established by state and local health department.

Kitchens are inspected twice in a school year by the McLennan County Health Department.

Food Allergens-Peanuts/Nut Allergies

Moody ISD does not contact food manufacturers to determine if food items are manufactured in a plant where peanuts, nuts or any other allergens may be present in trace amounts.

Moody ISD tries to avoid products known to contain peanut as an ingredient. Moody ISD cannot guarantee foods purchased have not been in contact with peanuts or other nuts during manufacturing.
