COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION 2021-2022
MISD nursing department leads health promotion and disease prevention in school. We partner with students, families, and staff to promote a safe and healthy environment. Preventative measures at home and school will help prevent the spread of any respiratory diseases to include coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
MISD health guidelines follow CDC recommendations and will continue to be proactive by advising students, families, and staff to:
- Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes, then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow. The nursing office has a supply of face masks to utilize on persons that demonstrate respiratory illness. The CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. A face mask should be used by people who have COVID-19 and are showing symptoms. This is to protect others from the risk of getting infected.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when ill. Nursing office utilizes CaviWipes. They are tuberculocidal, bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal. In addition to routine cleaning, GermBlast assists with district wide disinfection on a quarterly basis.
- Wash hands for 20 seconds. Washing hands often under clean, running water can help prevent the spread of germs. If you cannot wash your hands, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60-95% alcohol.
MISD will continue to collaborate with the McLennan County Health District as they continue to investigate. This is a rapidly evolving situation and MISD is prepared to implement any further CDC and Health District recommendations.
