Gifted/Talented Education in Texas
In 1977, the Texas Legislature passed its first legislation concerning the education of gifted/talented (G/T) students. In 1979, state funds for providing services to G/T children were made available, but providing such services was optional for school districts.

In 1987, the Texas Legislature mandated that all school districts must identify and serve G/T students at all grade levels. In 1990, The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students was adopted, and in 1999, the Texas Performance Standards Project for Gifted/Talented Students (TPSP) was created.

Today, Texas educators are committed to meeting the unique needs of G/T students and to expanding the ways we do so. Texas Curriculum Program Cooperative
Why was the TCMPC formed?

The TCMPC was formed to help schools operate in a way that allows teachers to do what they do best - educate students. By providing schools a resource aligned with what the state of Texas has determined students are expected to learn (TEKS), teachers can spend more time focusing on students and improving the learning environment in schools.

The TCMPC is dedicated to helping schools maximize resources in order to advance students’ academic success.

The TCMPC provides content and support for an online curriculum management system known as the TEKS Resource System. The content includes curriculum and assessment components aligned to the most current versions of the State Board of Education-adopted TEKS for the following subject areas:

English Language Arts and Reading (grades K-12)
Mathematics (grades K-12)
Science (grades K-12)
Social Studies (grades K-12)
Spanish Language Arts and Reading (grades K-5)
Spanish translated versions of Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies (grades K-5)
The TCMPC believes that teachers, working with parents and their communities, know how to best educate their students. Therefore, the TCMPC does not provide sample lessons.

An Adaptive, Personalized Learning Experience for Every Student

In a typical math classroom, it is rare for a student to receive individualized attention, especially at the particular time that they are struggling with the topic at hand. It can be frustrating and counter-productive for a student to work through a problem when they lack the tools to solve it. Think Through Math provides unprecedented differentiation with a distinctive and powerful blend of highly adaptive instruction and “just-in-time” support from a real-time, state-certified math teacher. The idea is simple: a student can make more progress with intensive support. By providing adaptive lesson pathways that are uniquely personalized, Think Through Math deepens understanding of critical mathematical concepts, improves higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills, and transforms the way students feel about math – and themselves.

Think Through Math (TTM) is designed for all students in grades 3-8 who are preparing for STAAR. Because TTM is adaptive, it develops individualized learning pathways that target the unique instructional needs of each student including:

• Students who are working at grade-level or above
• Students who are working a year or two or more below grade-level
• Students who find traditional math programs boring and de-motivating
• Students who love to work on the computer
• Students enrolled in public schools
• Home-schooled students
• English language learners
• Special Education students
• Regular Education students
